Songkran is the traditional New Year celebration of the Thai people according to the Thai lunar calendar. This year it is dated from 13 to 15 April. On the evening of 12 April, houses and apartments are cleaned. In the morning of 13 April, the families go to the Wats and sacrifice rice, fruit and other food there. Afterwards in the afternoon the Buddha figures and the head of the Wat are "bathed" by watering them with water. In many cities, such as Chiang Mai, the Buddha statues are then driven through the city in a procession to give other believers the opportunity to water the statues as well. The Thai New Year is also celebrated in the Restaurant Samui-Thai. All details can be found here.
