Wan Songkran is the traditional New Years celebration of the Thai people according to the Thai lunar calendar. This year it is dated from the 13. to the 15. April. On the evening of 12. April, houses and apartments are cleaned. In the morning of 13. April, the families go to the Wats and sacrifice rice, fruits and other food there. Afterwards in the afternoon the Buddha figures and the head of the Wat are "bathed" by watering them with water. In many cities, such as Chiang Mai, the Buddha statues are then driven through the city in a procession to give other believers the opportunity to water the statues as well. The Thai New Year is also celebrated in the Restaurant Samui-Thai. All details can be found here.
